I pointed it out in the original post, but I think it bears repeating: this desperate little hanging pose was employed once before: http://www.octopuspie.com/2007-11-28/077-like-a-fox/ . It's probably deeply embedded in my psyche from a Roadrunner cartoon, or something directed by Chuck Jones, who often sent meek characters tumbling over cliffs.
