I don't think they're spinning the plates. They're just holding them from below (with some kind of system) to make it look like the puppets are holding them in their hands.
Oh! Calvin and Hobbes reference in the second panel? I'm pretty sure calvin says something along the lines of "this is so cool I have to go to the bathroom"
Am I the only person who thinks it would be kind of demeaning to the people who would work there? Also, pretty hard on the knees to crouch around like that a whole workday.
Interesting contrast to Mar's mindset later in the strip. Maybe this was Hanna's effect on her mentality at the time, or maybe she just changed her mind later on.

I love how Marigold subtly complains about her boyfriend to another guy.

Oh my God, only on second reading do I notice the Pupeteer-Waiters.

Yeah, shirts are like, totally weird.

My first look at the waiters: I like the puppets, but what is with the spinning plates on a stick?
I mean, I always like to see jugglers with spinning plates on sticks, but how does the food stay on?
Thank goodness I read the comments and looked a fourth time to see puppet hands touching the plates.

In the third panel, I figured Hannah was just being weird, and then I noticed that nope, the world's just gone loopy.

Exactly what I thought. Very fitting for Hanna, especially with an excuse, but no. Alas, the world around them is absurdifying.

OMG, the cook's a puppet, too! But it's not the Swedish Chef…
Could you imagine having to walk around like that all day, let alone carrying food? The pay and tips better be damn good.
Not to mention the chiropractic care!

Why isn't this place real yet?

"I'm so excited I gotta piss!" XD
Oh, sweet Canadian mullet, what a beautiful strip. And I'm stealing the piss line.
Thanks!

Is this a reference to Edward J. Grug III & Jessica McLeod's "Love Puppets"? From the Topshelf 2.0 site? (http://www.topshelfcomix.com/ts2.0/love_puppets_ch1/)
I know the internet is a big place, but it still seems too small to contain two competing sock-puppet coffee shops.
Beautiful work!
Q
that place NEEDS TO start existing RIGHT NOW
Dr. Phileas T. Fraggington III Esq.
I could actually stand to work at a place like that.
I’d still sound like Eeyore, but there it would be funny.

I've been reading and rereading Octopus Pie since the second storyline, and I've never noticed that the waiters had puppets until right now.

Now I know who Victor reminds me of! George Harrison circa Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
