Takeru Kobayashi was a folk hero of Coney Island in the early-00s, when he won six consecutive Nathan's Hot Dog eating contests and set new world records for competitive eating. He's since been (perhaps, permanently) bested by Joey Chestnut, who continues to take the record every year. All human achievements build on one another, though; Kobayashi still has my heart.

Phrases like 'subversive post-irony' are advanced techniques used by hipsters to get away with being sincere in public.

Heh, and I thought it was a reference to Kobayashi Maru from Star Trek.

Ah yes, the no-win scenario where a Starfleet captain must best a Klingon squadron in a hot dog eating contest.

I thought usual suspects. Well there you go…

I had the official Octopus Pie Kobayashi t-shirt, but I can’t find it now. Please put it back in the store! 🙂

Still one of my favorite videos. The live commentary is just…absurd.

It's a dual-function shirt. When you're wearing it, you're a Kobayashi fan, and when you take it off to protest outmoded breast-shaming social norms, you're a Chest Nut.
