But when you speak to her, her eyes eyes light up. The music spills right into your cup. It's so abrupt and it's so concise. There are pies on a carousel, have a slice. But watch out, she ain't no good for you. I say, watch out. She ain't no good for you.
Great job Meredith. Their actions are so well conveyed…
To be fair, Will's loyalty to Marygold is about equal to her own loyalty to him: http://www.octopuspie.com/2010-02-08/359-victor/
Maaaaan you Brooklyinians need to chill out with your hormones of SEX. :-/
Still, I like Marygold better than Amiee, but in my opinion people that are so prone to stray from a relationship shouldn't really be together. Marygold, go find yourself a guy that'll remember not to get decaf!
Maybe it is just me, but if you look at Marigold in the last panel of #393 (knew a thing), she has Larry-lust in her eyes. Just the way she is not even hiding it…
On the other hand, it's worth pointing out Aimee's called Will on his BS faster than any other character, and gently – the only way to get under his defenses. He needs that – a lot.
Seriously, I'm actually glad Aimee's back because at least she can keep Will grounded. I love him and all, but the dude has got to stop runnin' 'round in circles like this; it's depressing me.
To be fair, Aimee doesn't appear out to cause trouble… she's single (apparently), and seemed to know that Will was lying (how could she not, look at that shifty, nervous grin). I actually think her parting words ("Stop by the shop, I'll be in the nonfiction section") sounds like code for "Drop me a line when you're not a liar liar, pants-on-fire." rather than an invitation to UNF.
I don't think Will knows what he wants, really. Marigold is sweet, but he doesn't seem anywhere near as into her as she is into him. I think she's just a safe, convenient option to him, as crappy as that sounds. Not moving in together was probably smart.
They're both dating someone, and Aimee knew that by their answers ("not really"). It implies that they'd still be interested in each other. I don't think she's out to cause mischief, but I don't think her intentions are pure, either.
What's going on with Will and Eve though. I think it would be great if they could get back and stay with it. Maybe Eve can get over the fact that he's a dealer, or Will can find an other job that he loves just as much.
I'm probably the only person who doesn't really care of Marigold. I don't think she's a bad person, but she's annoying and pretenious, and reminds me a little bit of a spoiled brat. Marigold's family has never been brought into the picture, but I have the feeling they are well-off and have spoiled her to no end. She tries to make up for it by acting like a faux hippy.
It doesn't seem like Will nor Marigold has totally cheated on each other, but I don't think either are really into each other. I don't think Marigold is really into Will (Nat already pointed out why). I think she is confused and lost on what to do with herself, because she's never had to really work hard for anything (hence my belief her family is fairly well-off). Will is the polar opposite and I think she views him more of a professor in urban survival, someone who could provide for her when she flubs up, than a boyfriend.
Nope, not a fan of Marigold either. That being said, I don't see the Will/Aimee trajectory panning out — if anything, the meeting might cause him to reconsider his dynamics with other women of his acquaintance, a.k.a. Eve.
Very nicely done, Meredith — and a great line re: "non-fiction"
I don't really see the "spoiled brat" vibe, and I think it's somewhat presumptuous to…uh, presume that her parents are well-off. But it's a fair opinion, so I won't judge.
Totally rooting for Aimee and Will, even though I get the feeling Aimee is a permanently temporary character and will be gone by the end of the episode. Aimee is a really strong, fun character with the much-needed ability to cut through bullshit. Marigold is just too boring, and also, what Heidi said. And I don't know why anyone would want Even and Will to be together, I think that would be a disaster.
Unless my memory is rusty, they were essentially well matched and got along swimmingly until Eve fount out about what Will does for a living, and consequently couldn't look past it despite obviously liking him a hell of a lot.
Seriously – do *I* have to be that one guy that points out how ridiculously hot she is?
Meredith, you've really taken your artwork to the next level. It has always been good, but lately it has been eye-poppingly so. Everyone is more expressive and more characterized, somehow.
I like Aimee. I don’t think she’s as conniving as some are making her out to be, and really, I think she’s what Will needs. I never really liked Marigold though. So there.
I mean, Marigold is uber nice and sweet and all, and I would enjoy having a friend like her, but I like the rest of the cast better. Even so, WIll shouldn't cheat on her.
Even before I read the whole strip and I was up to the part where Aimee takes a smoke from Will and he had a little smile on his face I was thinking "OOOO he still digs her!"
There's something I can't put my finger on with Marigold… She has dreads which are awesome but she kind of annoys me so I would prefer if Will was with someone else… But my first preference is still EVE!!
Oh WOW that is one dangerous lady! She's not conniving or evil, afaict, she's just sharp, and shiny, and locked in mutual orbit with Will. They are… mooning over each other!
Daww… I went to SPX mainly to see Mer & try to get some original art and a mini. I was also excited to see Jason Viola and get some Herman the Manatee stuff. I had heard of Kate Beaton mainly from mentions from Mer and R. Stevens and had read a few of her comics, but I didn't realize she had become like the biggest thing in webcomics. I'll have to upload the pic I took of the line to her table. She was setup by a door to the main room, the line went out the door down the hall, then snaked back. And it stayed that way for hours. It was ridiculous. I did get to see her 'perform' some of her comics live, which was absolutely hilarious. You should schedule it into your calendar for next year. 😉
PHEW. Found this comic linked by every webcomic I’ve ever read ever (well it feels like it) and I’ve just gone through the whole shebang. And now I’m durn hooked.
Nooooo, Will, nooooo. Stay away! I don’t care for him and Marigold I guess, and I like Aimee enough, but liar+liar=not a good idea. He needs someone who’s going to kick his ass and hold him to a better standard, not chastise him while kind of doing the same thing.
I could see Will dreaming this, although somehow I think somewhere Eve and Aimee would combine into some super-robot-being ("Evemee?" "Aimeve?") and end up destroying Will.

i've always thought that if octopus pie had a soundtrack, it would be by cake.

This comment got me to look up Cake, five or six years ago… weird to find it in my reread and remember that. Still one of my favorite bands.

I hope he was talking to Will. But I'm pretty sure he wasn't. Either way, gross. x.x

Will! What…!

You make me sad with your lies, Will.

Errrgh, Aimee. Nooooooo.

I think I contracted tetanus just thinking about that.

It was fun seeing the original spoiler art for this at SPX… but it's more entertaining with the text! 🙂
I like the way Aimee's hair is drawn, even if she is about to cause trouble.
Cloots
Ditto! Shes very adorable. I wish she wasn't evil forces 😉
Cri
She truly has enviable hair.

Well, be fair… That was Victor.
Marissa.
Victor reminds me of my boyfriend's brother, but they live in the Bronx, not Brooklyn.
darrylayo
Yeah, Marigold is automatically excused of her indiscretions.

Love the second and third panels. His eyes speak volumes (and I love how she just helps herself to a smoke).

(No, I have no idea what I just said. I'm sorry.)

How come if she was into the ren fair thing is she now working in non-fiction? Oh well I suppose a job's a job.
Also: I bet we'll find out she smokes weed next.

tsk tsk tsk, will—and for someone who played you 80s teen movie style. SHAME. now go get your friend a tetanus shot.

That interruption in panel 4 is brilliant <3

Although I do enjoy a bit of Hannah. Just not in that way.
