Sorry so late! I've been juggling book 3 preparation and Webcomics Weekend plans this week, and it's been hectic. At any rate, have a good Friday thru Sunday.
This is wonderful. My big brother and I used to run around our local grocery store playing "Supermarket Sweep." We never did have the sweaters, though.
Oh, this is making me think of time spent shopping with my little sister and Mum, too. I recall that I always made a beeline for the aisle they kept the coffee and grinder in – I wouldn't like coffee until I went to art college (oh, those lectures!), but always loved the grinder's strong roasty scent. Thanks for the recollection.
This chapter really does seem to be making a soft-edged and relevant point about how we assimilate to consumer culture, making our own 'infotainment', if you will.
man… I had a job at Disney World. I gotta say, this is exactly what it felt like.
But then it gets fun again, because you realize you're fooling people into believing everything is awesome, when it's really bubblegum, cardboard, and duct tape.
It's like being let in on the best practical joke ever. It's just fun.

haha, Julie's cheerful obliviousness to her job is great.
